A beginner’s introduction to PLAY! Come learn the basics of Improvisational Theater. Through games and exercises, you will learn the beauty of SAYING YES! And the ultimate glory in FAILURE! Through movement improvisational exercises you will learn to explore more than just you Voice, and to explore the Where, Who and What (in that order!). Come explore the moment, and learn to trust your intuition.
Learn about soft focus, about supporting your partner, and most importantly about caring a little less ardently about success (or rather, redefining what success in a scene really means!).
Warning: This class may improve your listening skill, your sense of hard and soft focus, and bring strength and clarity to your communicative ability on or off the stage! Even if you’ve taken a beginning Improv class- or never intend to perform- it’s a wonderful and fun life exercise for your own well-being!
About Your Instructors
Tom & Jackie have collectively studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in NYC, New Actors Workshop in NYC, the Mop & Bucket Company in Schenectady, and the Sills/Spolin Theaterworks (under Carol, Aretha and Amelia Sills, and Kathy Hendrickson) in Door County, Wisconsin. As company members of Jersey City Children's Theater they performed Paul Sills' Story Theater to the children of Jersey City. They can occasionally be seen in the capital district performing Story Theater as 'Such 'n' Such and the What-Nots', and later this fall with a few others in a long form troupe 'Third Premis'.
